...a few offerings to help that croak in your throat...a little vice-y raft to get you across that psychological moat.

MISS U, K?
This past long weekend book-ended by precipitation...driving to and from Saskatoon in torrential downpours, driving winds--the journeys synesthetic trips of rubbery rain and wet puddles of wipers. The gleaming vehicles and their glossy black tires had me lying back and thinking of England. I pulled this photo out of the vaults, taken a couple of years ago on a hill somewhere in Northumberland. Now that was a lovely day--
instavintage: The Vernon View
Cripes what a long weekend, started with driving through the pouring rain to Saskatoon to a nice barbecue then off to a giant 30th birthday party for a very nice gal in a very nice house, replete with heated pool and hot tub, lots of drinks and blub blub blub. I wished I had my camera there, then was sort of glad I didn't...up early on Saturday to walk the dog in a warm sunny city, breakfast in a pub with my sister, a nap--then the Champions League final, with Chelsea the improbable winners. Congrats, Chelsea fans. The afternoon turned into night, and then into daylight. I have not partied like that for a looong while. Old time hedonism, my gawd. And Chelsea isn't even my team.

Wind, Work, Whedon, Waskesiu, with a little bit of meh sauce...
It's hello to Waskesiu once again, though work began a little shakily. I showed up at what I thought was the right time, only to be told I was two weeks early. I returned to Saskatoon, only to have my supervisor phone me to tell me I did have my start date right...I ended up starting a week after I was supposed to, and a week before they thought I should start.
The first week went well--now at the beginning of the second I'm feeling exhausted, my body apparently has forgot what it's like to get up at six a.m. and go to work everyday. But me brains are enjoying the escape from winter cave living.
Somewhere in there I had a good Saskatoon day/night out with old friends, having some drinks at thee pubs while it poured rain outside--then a house party later on, while it poured rain outside.
I also managed to see The Avengers. So glad that I could contribute to the billion-dollar + haul. I honestly thought it would be better, and in retrospect I'm asking myself why I thought it would be better. Better than what? What the hell was I expecting? Shakespeare? It certainly was a spectacle, what with the superheroes and the fighting with the aliens and the learning to work together as a team. Good message, that. I thought that because it was a Joss Whedon picture it would be--well I specifically thought it would have better dialogue. The one-liners were snappy-ish, and the plot--oh Jesus Christ Dai, it's a fucking comic book movie...I may have liked it better when I was ten. Bring on Prometheus. A few years ago I mainly watched art-house flicks, and though those can be wretched as well, it may be time to inject a few into my blockbuster bloodstream...
...not really an old friend this guy--but he is a Big River legend I think it's fair to say.
Get your creepy finger tips out of these special vegetables, friend!
Crossing the P.A. bridge at dawn on the way to work--I'm not fully moved in at the lake yet, should be by tomorrow...
...my commentary on this post is about as interesting as this bolt.
Pooder summers with his grandparents for the most part--my trailer gets too hot during the day, and as a sociable little chap I do believe his quality of life is much better with two doting retirees and a big back yard with lots of shade at his disposal. This guy, Duke, took me for a ride on some Waskesiu trails the other day. Super friendly but a bit of a handful...he's one of a couple of big dogs up at the lake with lots of energy--and the owners are usually thankful when someone gets them out and about.
Caught this herd relaxing this morning...which is what I'm going to do...right now. My eyes my eyes my eyes, they are closing, closing, closing....

This is the second photo in a sporadic feature on Oblong Country, called 'Smart Looking Station Wagons in Parking Lots'.
