Bullish on Winter

Despite frigid temperatures, sketchy roads, and temporary seasonal alcoholic behaviour, the past few wintry weeks have been a blast.

The monotony of the winter depths have been broken up with a visit to Waskesiu, and a weekend in Canmore Alberta.  I have been practicing my new hobby, cross country skiing, with varying results.  After the the ski in Waskesiu I was merely sore for about a week afterwards.

The ski at Shark Mountain near Canmore left me with a few real pains--I must have fallen at least a dozen times...I'm hopeless when it comes to slopes steeper than the incline of a wheelchair ramp.  It is good to take up something new---it's been a long time since I have worked on a new physical skill.  I totally forgot that there is a learning curve involved with most pursuits.
I've been re-reading H.P. Lovecraft and watching the television series The Walking Dead: my dreams have been relatively horror-free, though I did daydream an alternate Canmore full of shuffling zombies decked out in the latest ski-fashions, stumbling out of high-end liquor stores and curio shops.
